"The wars that were fought by our fathers and our grandfathers were not wars that they chose to fight, but when the United States joined into these conflicts young men were called to serve.  Our ancestors answered the call to duty and they had the support of the entire nation.

Viet Nam was not a popular war, but it was the war of our time and it is considered our war.  As returning veterans we did not always find the appreciation for our efforts.  Today there is a greater appreciation for the men and women who served in the ugly war.  Those who served carried on the tradition of young American men through the ages."

For me, serving in a war zone gave a new meaning to the term "You can't go home again". I was able to go home, but it was never the same. The war experience took my innocence forever, but it also created a bond to other veterans that will last for the rest of my life."
